Creasing on New C&J Weymouth

After two years of lusting I finally took advantage of the weak GBP and bought a new pair of C&J Weymouths from Pediwear. In fact, the cost in USD went down ~$10 from when I ordered them until I was charged upon shipment.

When they finally arrived I was happy to see that unlike other new Weymouths I've seen in antique brown, mine are actually antiqued. However, after one wearing they seem to be developing a very grainy crease across the vamp. My tan C&J wholecuts don't have this problem. Is this because of the Weymouth's finish? Is there anything I can do before it gets worse?

Thanks!

It's my understanding that this is a risk with a whole cut. Your tans ones seem to refute this but I still think that whole cuts are more prone to vamp creasing than other styles. I would make sure that the leather is moisturized with a cream, brush diligently, and then apply polish. This might be enough to mitigate the creasing.

Calfskin develops microcreases this is just something you have to deal with. Depending on how the shoe fits you the microcreases will develop in different places. Just continue to take good care of your shoes and it won't get to much worse.

It doesn't really look excessive. Is it the same right to left?

also the Peal tans aren't really weymouths. Different last, different creasing

Judging from the photos I'd say it is a similar creasing on both of your C&J's. The difference seems to be caused by the colors of the shoes. In any case nothing to get worried about.

The creasing looks normal to me.

Even though they are not EG's or G&G's, handgrade C&J should have absolutely ZERO creases anywhere.

You need to return them because obviously the shoes are defective, the leather shoddy, and C&J completely overrated for a English shoemaker.

The BB wholecuts, as mentioned, are not Weymouths. I thank you for posting those pics, because you can clearly see that shape of the last, the proportions of the throat and the size and the position of the facings are all clearly different. But also, the leather may be dry. Go over it with some good leather conditioner a couple of times if you're concerned about it.

Yes, I feel your thinking. This use to bug me a lot.

I have a pair of Weymouths on the second set of soles (factory) and over time the creasing adds to the character of the shoe. When new the creasing just ruins the continuity of the monolithic nature of the wholecut. That can't be helped and is even highlighted with the darker brown; it's less noticeable on your tan shoe because there is less color contrast. Perhaps the only way to minimize creasing is to get bespoke for a fit conformed to your foot; but I wouldn't know because I haven't gone that route.

I took a look at my other wholecut shoes and recall how the signs of first creasing bothered me, particularly with shell cordovan. In fact there was a time when creasing even on cap toes bothered me. Now, creasing is part of each shoe's personality. I've been able to drown out the whining voice of the little man in my head.

A little creasing adds character - think of them as 'laughter lines'

I know that the Peal wholecuts are on a different last. I just posted the picture to compare the creasing. I guess I'll wear the Weymouths some more and see how they turn out.
