Are you designing Snoop Dogg's outfit for the Player's Ball this year?

If your question is "can I do something crazy," then the answer is "not yet."

I think elbow patches as a fashion touch peaked a year ago, and they'd be tacky in alligator. If you're going tacky, GET LOUD. Why not have more fun with it? Navy blazer, 4x4, patch pockets, with frog-mouth lapels, sleeve cuffs, and roped shoulders! Get a bunch of brass emblematic buttons from the same company, but not matching ones -- so one button's a sailboat, one's a golf ball, one's a fox, and so on! Make it a safari jacket -- navy DB cotton with belted back and bellows pockets!

Or do none of those things. I'm 20 at the moment, and if I had a clothing budget to speak of but was set on conservative gear, I'd get a little crazy too.

The jacket pictured is a 4x2, a 4x1 would be similar to this. Regarding the "crazy idea", in my opinion, the button configuration is "crazy" enough.

gimicky? yeah. But if you're into that sort of thing, then it's okay. I wouldn't have the elbow patches be too contrasting if you're doing them.

I agree on the elbow contrasting. Brown might be too "look at me." A bright blue DB is pretty wild as is. What about blue gator elbow patches? Add the detail but with a bit of subtlety.

Yep, I've seen that, that's where my inspiration is coming from :)

The jacket is not going to be bright blue, it's gonna be navy. This Sunday I'm going to take a look at some exotic leathers, i might consider some blue snake skin.

But I'm not quite sure about the buttons, dark MOP? plain black? Brass?

How about a lining with a snake skin pattern instead?

You could absolutely do what you're talking about for the sake of ostentation and get all kinds of flattering attention from people in the real world (women, even) and scorn from anonymous people on the Internet.
