Also, what is with "build" in relation to shoes? Shirts? Western boots? We build houses and roads, not smocks and fedoras.
"Build" makes sense to me- putting together a pair of boots involved more than just sewing. Construction seems the best analogy for a process that requires using pliers, hammering in nails and pegs, doing heavy sanding, and occasionally working with some industrial equipment.

"Make" also seems to do the trick for me.

Was in Austin last weekend to catch a Billy Strings show (it was awesome), and damned if I didn't leave Heritage with two pairs of some fine western boots (my wife picked up a pair also), will post pictures when I am out of contractor hell - having floors replaced and it's a disaster zone in there right now.

I wanna see Billy Strings!! Love his videos on youtube

yeah man, it was a great show. Only downside was the multiple Phish-like jams that turned 4 minute songs into 20 minutes or more. Have never been a fan of those types of shows. Apparently (judging by the number of tie dye and Grateful Dead shirts in the audience that I couldn’t just ascribe to this being Austin), the jam set seem to have adopted Billy as one of their own. Still, the few times they did play a really amazing song (and they play them well) made sitting through the jams well worth it

Jam bands are truly awful, I feel you.

Other than these does anyone know of goodish boots with a cactus motif or inlay?

Article is a little old now, and shop has new owners (founders retired and sold to their two salespeople, so ownership didn't transfer too far), but main points are still valid, and in my experience with the upper tier brands like Lucchese, Rios, Black Jack (Heritage aren't "bespoke" boots so I wouldn't do them the injustice of comparing them to a full bespoke boot, which is good since I have no experience with those anyways), they really are (in my opinion) the best (non-bespoke) boot you can buy right now.
