I would like to get a hat that can cover my ears in the winter. It seems like if it is cold enough to wear a hat, then you'll also need to cover your ears. A hat that is not as casual as a beanie is desired. Ear muffs seem an inelegant solution. This is an Astrakhan Ambassador hat from Will's blog. He says it has ear flaps, but I'm curious as to what that looks like deployed. I bought my girlfriend a similar fox fur hat except without ear flaps. Even when pulled down it only covers about 2/3 of the ears. Would it be better to get a longer ambassador-type hat so that it covers the ears when pulled down, or just one with ear flaps? Or are there other hat types to consider?

I prefer platform pumps, especially in a faux fur. It is remarkable how well they keep your ears warm...the friction seems to help.

The hat George is wearing looks pretty good. It's taller than the fox fur hat I bought, so you could probably pull it down to cover your ears.
