Could this be fixed?

I bought a BB sportscoat off of Ebay, it looked good so I bought it. I got it home and noticed that the collar was kind of messed up, like the person had it shortened. Can this be fixed?

That's weird. Is the lining of the collar shortened as well? It looks like it just might have been pressed wrong, in which case it could be repressed by a competent cleaner. But if it was actually cut and altered that way then it might be a lost cause.

To be clear - does it fold back down? How does it look at the front?

I can't imagine that anyone would knowingly alter a jacket to look like that so let's hope it's a cleaning/pressing issue.

It looks normal in the front, but the back is just like the picture. I also thought that maybe it wasn't folded right, but that's the true length. Could it be extended? Damn shame to let go a nice jacket..

Sorry, must have been blocked while I was at work.

If someone has really done to this collar what it looks like they've done, then sorry to say you will not be able to widen it again. Lets hope it's only pressed badly...

The undercollar and possibly the neck yoke have stretched making the top collar leaf too short compared to the jacket. The collar rises up due to this. In other words, the length of the undercollar along the curved edge where it is sewn to the jacket from shoulder seam to shoulder seam is longer than the outside edge of the top collar from shoulder seam to shoulder seam. The top collar should be longer than the undercollar. Pressing will correct it for 2 minutes. Needs to be fixed correctly or it will continue to do this. The collar needs to be opened, shrink the yoke with an iron. Apply tape or something to stay the area. Make a seam in the undercollar to size it to the yoke, put a stay stitch in the undercollar to keep it from stretching again. Reattach the collar and press. Easy-peasy.

I think that should be a pressing issue and can be easily fixed as have already been mentioned. But if it is not the case then I am thrilled myself that somebody will do that to a collar.

This certainly sounds like something you would not want to trust a dry-cleaner to do. I expect their eyes would glaze over if you even began to try to explain what Despos just described. Take it to a proper tailor.

+1. Don't even think about a dry cleaner for anything other than a simple hem or a button. On second thought, nothing more than the button.
