After comparing original measurements and actual measurements on a shirt (Thomas Mason Goldline fabric) that I've had for about 2 years, I found that it has stretched about 1/2" to 1". So instead of shrinking, it stretches. Is it normal?

I have found that cotton stretches at stress points but bounces back after a wash/dry. Very interesting regarding your shirt.

I noticed my jeans are quite tight when I first wear them after laundering, but after a few wears they become loose.

My cotton shirts shrunk at different rates, depending on the type of material.

Cotton will stretch sometimes rather then shrinking.

Where did you notice the stretching?
Collar?
Sleeves?
body?

Which fabric was it?
A twill, royal oxford, or Broad cloth?
