Next week, my girlfriend and I will decamping for Costa Rica. We picked Costa Rica simply because we wanted to go somewhere within reasonable flying time that neither one of us had ever visited. (My only other previous experience south of Key West in the Western Hemisphere was a spring break spent hiking in the Andes as an undergrad, and hers is some time spent in Buenos Aries.)

I don't know much about the arrangements, because she's done all the planning, except that we're splitting our time between a hotel in or around the Manuel Antonio National Park.

Does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants or things that must be seen? Also, recommendations in San Jose for cigar shops with well-regulated humidors and reasonable turnover?

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
