People in Asia in 2023 wear classic western suits. Not sure what you thought they wore...

I was answering another comment. I was never in Asia and don't know what people there wear, and I wasn't infering anything like that. My point is just that the black colour has a very limited application in classic menswear.

Better executed than most in the west, on average to be honest.

Maybe, but it's still western style. The comment I replied was about people in Asia wearing much more black outfits (supposedly traditional ones) compared to western countries.

See, you made that up. It said black suits. It was clear, in context, that they were referring to the same black lounge suits with lapels that you might see anywhere else.

By the way, black suits are common daytime / business attire in Europe as well. When you say "Western," it's clear that you're specifically referring to North America.

And I mean, hey, I'm with you in that it is hard to wear a black suit in the day in North America. It doesn't really fit our local culture. But you're clearly talking nonsense beyond that point.

No, I live in Europe, Germany, and even here, where good taste in men's clothing is certainly not common good, black is rarely seen in daily tailored garments.

I don't know what you see, but I usually see bad dressed men, mostly wearing black casual clothes. The few that properly dress don't certainly wear black, except for the already mentioned formal occasions.

I was referring specifically to Asia. You said that you have never been and don't know what people wear.....yet you can comment on what they do and the look?

Frankly I couldn't care less, in this context, what people in Asia wear. The matter of discussion was, and is, the use of black in classic men's clothing.

Seems weird to reject an entire continent. Particularly one that really is going through a moment right now of really embracing and in many ways perfecting traditionally western tailoring.

That being said, I don’t think I’ve seen any of the well dressed CM guys in Asia rocking black suits (which are still an abomination by the way). But I’ve reached out to a couple friends in HK, Beijing and Tokyo to check since they’d know better.

I don't reject anything, I only find that the discussion has pretty much derailed. Someone spoke about people in Asia wearing more black, and I thought it was meant traditional Asian clothing, that's all.

Traditional Asian clothing? I specifically said suits!

You haven't been to Asia and don't know what people there wear...yet you still try to justify how they must look!

Classic men's clothing? The questions was about 4 baton suits/buttons on the sleeve. That's NOT CM!

It sounds like the OP is a goth and is looking for advice on gothic dressing to me.

I would hardly come to the Styleforum if I was looking for advice on gothic dressing. I am looking for traditional menswear advice that would be applicable regardless of one's preferred colour palette. It makes no difference to me whether black suits are uncommon in America nowadays; they are not uncommon in Britain and Ireland (or, as others have pointed out, Asia; in fact, anything other than black suits is unusual in the predominantly Asian company my father works for). I also do not care about modern trends; the youngsters running around in their ridiculously tight, colourful suits with short jackets, looking not only as if they are about to pop a button but leaving nothing about the contours of their ass to the imagination, are, in my opinion, the abomination.
