Currently building up my 'corporate' wardrobe.

Suits from Casa Adamo, shirts from Charles Nakhle, shoes from Florsheim (Imperial). Where would one get good quality ties and cufflinks from (in Sydney)? Also pocket squares/pocketchiefs? Would Kent Wang be the number one for those? Thanks in advance!

You might try Herringbone in QVB - they have some nice, reasonably priced silk pocketchiefs at the moment. The Tie Rack also has some better quality stuff styled the "English Collection". Or you could ask your tailor to cut you a matching pocket square everytime you order a shirt.

As for the Florsheims - Imperial or not you can do better online. Depending on your budget I'd suggest a pair of Loakes or C&Js from Pediwear or Plal - its a popular remedy on this forum to the lamentably bad selection of quality footwear on sale at the Far Side of the World.

DJs seem to have a decent selection of cufflinks.

Herringbone also have nice - albeit somewhat expensive - sterling silver cufflinks. I like them as they do not have the "swivel" back that is so common nowadays. I like both their linen and their silk pocket squares.

Every now and then you will see good deals on cufflinks and pocket squares in the Buying and Selling subforum here on SF.

I definitely agree that you could do better than Florsheim Royal Imperial if you shop for shoes online. Go to DJs or elsewhere, try on some Loakes, Churchs and similar shoes, get to know your size and then order online. You will get far, far better shoes than Florsheim for the same or less money.

If your dressing like that I would like to know which corporate you are working for

I get stares for choosing to wear a tie, and my Nahkle shirts get commented on since they blow 95% of the other shirts out of the water (infact I have one that is so good that I can't wear it again as it left them gasping)

Ties - When I used to work during Uni break at DJs Market St in the late 90s they had wonderful collection of ties. Went there the other day and quite pityfull. You can always try Harrolds(had a 50% sale on the other week) for Valentino's, Brioni's and etc or one of the designer stores Zegna or Armani. Having said that, Charles carries an Italian line of ties (made in Italy) called Pinoti. For $60 they are exceptional quality and value for that money. I have my eye on a Charvet tie on ebay which if genuine would be a great catch however I am holding out in these uncertain times.

Pocket Square - If you wear one of those, you will stand out to the trained eye and I will surely pick you out if you venture out around Martin Place.

Henry Buck's sale this week was a shocker with even less quality stuff and increased prices for the crap left overs. The shoes were especially unpleasant ones that looked like half of Sydney and Melbourne had worn them in the shop.

- When I was living in Sydney (only last year), all my suits & shirts were from Herringbone, shoes were C&J Handgrades from Plal (please don't do Florsheim otherwise I will hunt you down when I'm next in Sydney, which is every 3 months to boost the sartorial wasteland

), most of my ties were bought whilst travelling, PS were from either Herringbone (again) or Kent Wang though Chorse has some great ties & PS on his new site (use the search), sock were either Pantheralla or Paul Smith (wait for teh DJ sales for both). Finally, don;t even bother with Henry Bucks as they are total waste land.

As you will notice Herringbone features quite heavily, only because they do a great solid Australian product that needs support!

For ties, you really must try Rochefort. Shane makes all his ties from hand, and actually designs the silk himself. They are also 7 fold. They are among some of the best ties I own. If you are going to that expense for suits and shirts, these are justified. Get 2-3 of them then supplement your collection with Zegnas, Borellis and Brionis from Harrolds.

Agree with others re shoes. I live in NY currently, but grew up in and am returning to Brisbane. Australia is a shoe wasteland. Order some Churchs or Cheaneys from Herring Shoes or some Crockett and Jones from Pediwear or P.Lal. All 3 stores are extremely quick in shipping to Aus (P.Lal are in Malaysia). 2-3 pair of these in black and brown captoe oxfords will serve you well until you get addicted and start looking at GGs, EGs and Lobbs. Oh and I presume you own some RMs??? Very acceptable corporate attire in Aus and much loved on this forum. If not, you should be ashamed of yourself and immediately go out ando rder some black veal calf Craftsmans in the screwed sole.

Cheers

Thanks for all your replies, you've all been most helpful! Looks like Herringbone and Harrolds may be the go for ties & cufflinks. Pity that Harrolds is so overpriced. Would anyone recommend Canali for ties and cufflinks also? Which web sites would be the best to go to for shoes? The ones aforementioned are the best? Never bought any clothing online before, so this is a new one on me. Facetious question, how much (roughly) should i put aside for an Adamo suit or should I go to him for a quote? Bespoke clothing is new to me too, so I'm still learning about how it all works! Thanks again!

Yes, I agree. You should try going out to a place like Parramatta. People out there think that stylish suits are made at YD or Tarocash!

It depends on cloth but in Lesser things end up near $3600 for a two-piece suit.

- Every few months this comes up & every few months I say the same thing, regardless of where you are in the world there will only ever be a hand full of well dressed suits. Any city that has been tainted by video culture or shopping malls will be the same as described above.
- I say this as I travel on a regular basis & see Sydney as no different to NY, Tokyo, Milan, London etc. etc.
- Sure the other cities may have more better dressed ben, but then those cities tend to be at least twice the size of Sydney.
- In fact I see a lot of well turned out people when ever in Sydney, they jiust don't hang out in Martin Plc etc.

Is there anywhere locally where I can try these shoes before ordering online?

Wasn't Herringbone facing a few financial challenges a few months back? Was that resolved peacefully? PG's suits are absolutely rockin', so I do hope so!

When I think back to my time in Sydney, I recall a lot of Aquila shoes, striped shirts, pink shirts, grey/black flat fronted pants and Tag Heuer watches. Not a good look.

I think DJs can satisfy most of your sartorial needs.
