Copying a suit

I apologize if this question has already been asked, I did not have luck finding a definitive answer in searching the forum.

My question is in regards to MTM or bespoke tailors, and whether they can, or are even willing, to copy a suit.

My favorite suits in the world are from the Burberry Slim line. However, I have an affinity for peak lapels, ticket pockets and a double-vented back. Unfortunately, Burberry has never offered a suit with this combination, to my knowledge.

So the question is, will the average tailor be willing to take one of my Burberry suits, copy the exact fit, and make minute alterations, like add a ticket pocket?

My dream is for a tailor to copy a Burberry suit I already have, make the changes and keep the pattern so that in the future I can just pick fabrics and have these churned out. Ideally, but not necessarily, at a cost lower than the $1500-2000+ Burberry price point.

I spend my time between Seattle and LA, if it helps.

Best, Alex

I don't see why not. They will base the suit they create on the Burberry one you provide, and include the detailing you desire.

Although no real need to bring in a suit, unless you are showing them fabric. They will measure you up most likely, whether or not you bring in a suit you currently own and like how it fits.

Thanks, Saturdays. I was not sure if this practice was forbidden in the world of tailoring. Artistic integrity and all.

Some tailors will make something similar and thus akin to copying although the house style/construction of each will differ and so there will be variations. The most willing tailors are likely to be in Hong Kong and the least probably those on Saville Row who would ask you to close their doors - from the outside.

Do bear in mind that each cutter has his own ideas and his tailors, styles etc so there will be variations.
