Coppley MTM vs Thailand MTM?

Hello,
I am looking into purchasing a suit, for special occassions. (ie weddings, funerals, interviews, etc) I find shopping for suits a bit difficult, (short and somewhat skinny) since 36S is the only size that seems to fit me somewhat decent. I am relatively young, and this suit will be replacing my previous special occassion suit. Right now, my budget will only allow me to buy a Coppley MTM. (Harry Rosen has a special going on right now) I am doing a trip to Thailand late spring, would it be worth just having something made there while I am there, instead?

If you are new to suit buying, going to Harry Rosen will get you a guaranteed product, from people that have knowledge of suitmaking (at least relatively). The suit will be solid, and HR will back it up with after-sales service, and lifetime alterations. The Coppley product has improved markedly over the last couple of years, and the options for cuts and fabric are both impressive.

If you attempt to have a suit made in Thailand, you will have to deal with language issues and possible suit disasters (especially if you don't know what you want, and how to see/prevent any possible errors). You can search this forum for many examples of foreign tailor suit disasters (and some successes, of course...). You will also have a suit that you will not be able to get any after-sales service on, and will be 2500 miles from the source.

A Coppley suit from HR will not win you any awards with the iGents, but it will be a solid, safe choice that will last you for as long as you need it. That is worth way more than a shot in the dark with a foreign tailor, imo.

Didn't I say all that in one sentence?

Actually Aragon said this all better then I.
The coppley suit will be much more expensive.
It might be worth taking a shot on a blazer in Thailand, but don't get your hopes up too high.

+1

Since the recently improved make, one of the best bangs for the buck, IMO.
