You seem to be looking for a digital watch so here's a few suggestions.

Emporio Armani has a similar one to the Gucci you posted.
$325

Or you can go for a more modern look with this Diesel watch, $225.

Can we start implementing a "citizen's ban" sort of like a citizen's arrest?

Buying a quartz watch is not such a good idea. For just a bit more you can get something of quality in an automatic, i.e. Swiss Army, Hamilton, etc.
Somebody otherwise well dressed wearing a quartz watch can look pretty clueless IMO.

I disagree. I wear a tag heuer quartz as my everyday beater. The quartz keeps better time and is much more resistant to the abuse it's bound to receive. Granted, there are a lot of terrible "fashion" quartz watches, but you can find some very nice examples from tag heuer and breitling for example.

Fwiw, I paid $660 for my watch brand new. I'm sure you could find a used example in your budget.

It's more for casual wear and sometimes I don't like friends pointing out an expensive watch in social situations.

Buy a seiko automatic. No one will point out your overpriced watch and yet you will have a top quality automatic watch. Seiko Spirit is a nice one.

Some other options here.

May just be a matter of personal tast, but I feel like an automatic watch is a thing of beauty and a quartz is a bit of an appliance--functional, but that's it.

Sure automatic mechanical watch can be beautiful, but let's be honest, a seiko automatic movement is just cheapo and mass produced. You speak as if it were a Jaquet Droz.

Seiko makes an excellent watch for the money (I'd say it's probably the best quality per dollar you'll find anywhere, short of maybe a Hamilton)
