Nice - does it meet your (and your fiancee's) expectations? This is the favorite chair of every family member in our house

I’m having a rough week and day, and sitting on this chair with a Lagavulin 16 just made everything so so good.

She has lower back issues and finds it supremely comfortable; it’s unexpectedly ergonomic. The quality of the build is also quite evident.

5 thoughts (+ a free added bonus thought):
1) Your fiancée has excellent taste.
2) If you can actually afford it (save on other stuff) you really should endeavor to please your fiancée.
3) Nanimarquina rugs are both beautiful and excellent. There is very little being done so well in that "elegantly restrained but wonderfully vibrant" aesthetic. That aesthetic will be current and versatile for decades, and rugs are important memory-stages.
4) Your fiancée has excellent taste.
5) If you can actually afford it (save on other stuff) you really should endeavor to please your fiancée.

I urge you to carefully and seriously ponder points 1,2,4,5 especially.
Far better to share, for years and years, a beautiful NM rug with your fiancée/future wife than to eat cold pizza alone over a second-rate kilim, crying over your ex-fiancée....
HTH.

I love this one, is it just a prototype up for sell?

It's worth every penny. My father's in the antiquities business and got me one for Christmas a few years back. It's one of the most complimented pieces in my apartment. Excuse the mess.

An old friend has come to live with us.

By "old friend" do you mean that is a family heirloom? Wow, fantastic. That is really very beautiful*.

Will you be able to find/have made a replacement golden ball for the right side? Or just leave it as is? Also, how accurate is it now? Do clock-makers still make house-calls to adjust/repair?

*But, imo, surrounded by too much black and much too uncomfortably jammed into that corner. Is there no other more open location?

Kind of a family heirloom. Inherited from my dad, who brought it back from England in the '70s. Probably not a thing I'd acquire for myself, especially since we really don't have a better place for it.

I agree it is a terrible spot, but it's the best we can do at the moment. We considered and rejected half a dozen possibilities first: we'd hoped it would fit in our dining room but it would literally be scraping the ceiling, and it fits pretty well in my office but my wife wants it where she can see it. Eventually I may move that bookcase to another room, so the clock could move to that side.

If by "golden ball" you mean the thing that's on the lip to the left of the clock, that's the winding key.

It's been fun getting to know it better - based on the repairs I found I think someone lost the key at some point and pried the door off. The decorative brass fittings on the corners of the face itself were added or replaced at some point - the clockmaker thought they were circa 1820 while the clock itself is more like 1750. The finials are probably not original but they're the ones it had 50 years ago.

I took the movement to a clockmaker for a painfully expensive and long overdue overhaul, and his assistant came to the house to install and adjust it this afternoon. He suggested a house call in 5 years to oil it and bringing it in 10 years from now for a cleaning.

Cool sidenote: the clock has been in Santa Fe NM for the past decade or so, so I had to hire a local clockmaker to disassemble and pack it for shipping. The guy I randomly wound up with turned out to be one of the leading experts on automatons: https://www.scholastic.com/teachers...behind-brian-selznicks-invention-hugo-cabret/
