There are some excellent European vintage sellers on Etsy, and for light fittings postage isn't ruinous...

Best of all is vntg.com (also European, but then so is the best vintage lighting):

got a second cowhide rug to layer over the first. sadly it is so hairy and good that I may need to get another and move the old original rug to the closet...

Thank you @FlyingMonkey I will check these out. I'm trying to find a pair of sconces that are A. not ugly, B. wired with an on/off switch, and C. small -- which is turning out to be really difficult.

With most older european light-fittings, you might have trouble getting a registered electrician to fit them because many aren't approved to US standards. It's not that they aren't safe, just that would never have been tested for sale in the USA. So you'd either have to do it yourself or find an electrician who won't mind.

He also wouldn't be able to use without a new socket or a converter, depending on the stock socket. If an E27 socket, you can use an E26 bulb. If anything else, apparently you need a new socket or a converter to use with Eu bulbs.

I just learned this when I ordered a Muuto lamp from France without realizing the socket and plug would be different.

Any recommendations for cOoL rugs?

This one from Tufenkian would seem to fit your style. Easy to mix and match with various looks.

We have this! I may have posted about it.
Definitely posted this one.
I've been leaning pretty Scandi for lack of any talent at this interior design thing and in the interest of checking boxes quicker. I just picked this up for my bedroom.

I'll need a larger rug (5 x 8 or so) for the living room, for which I'm leaning similarly neutral, but i'm open to fUn iDeAs™.
You might check out Angela Adams. DWR used to carry their stuff, but you could go direct and save money. Plus, they'll cut a rug in half and bind it to create two runners if you want.

have you looked at Bert Frank ? We have a couple of sconces and the materials and make are very impressive. Prices are painful but it's all forgotten once on the wall, right?

Thanks @gdl203 those are definitely in the style I'm looking for (minimal, 1930-1940s-inspired). Some really nice designs. My real challenge has been finding a small sconce that is switched (with on/off switch on the light itself). Most new ones are wall switched. I'm trying to avoid rewiring the living room. I've come to terms that everything I like is going to be expensive, and take 6-9 months :) So we will just have less stuff. shrug.
