We just kept our old salad forks.

One thing that we didn’t realize from the photos: the “teaspoon” that comes with the set is surprisingly small. It’s like a demitasse spoon.

My problem is that salad forks are definitely optional for daily-use place settings...but its real nice to have them available as extra forks to use for dessert/lunch/cooking/snacks/etc. If you have 8 place settings, no way do you end the day with enough forks to actually seat 6-8 people without having to wash some. Even if you have everything washed after lunch, maybe you grab a fork to whisk up a corn starch slurry to thicken a sauce right before serving?

Sure, I could just have a totally different set of forks (or order extra individual dinner forks), but it is kind of nice to have everything matching...

Otherwise, yeah, I really like those fiskars sets every time they get posted here.

Look, small-timer, the obvious solution is to buy two sets, and then you have 12. We can’t have this sort of nonsense in this vry srs threak.

Normally, I cry foul at these accusations because they're merely thinly veiled criticisms of dumbs on account that I retain the things I read (I only know what you poast). However, in your case, I have demonstrated such a near maniacal ossessione with your tastes and personal habits that I have been flaberglasted it has taken you this long to comment upon it. Your safe word is heard loud and clear (I'm going back to the Foo now, unless he objects, then it's a long way down to Van Veen).

For the cutlery record, we use a basic set that my wife bought in Bangkok about 30 years ago in the apt and a tarnished sterling silver set from one of our grandparents at the cabin.

Cutlery is way down on my list of things to think about.

$501 (I've seen this chair in person, and it's not that well made. The front looks smooth in the photos, but in reality it's a little dimpled from the lattice underneath. The aluminum version is amazing, though.)

But it blows my mind that people would pay that much for a plastic chair. I'd expect it more in the $200 ballpark:

Fuckity **** ****. Just looked at auction prices and didn't realize how good of a deal there was on one from an old lady's estate ($200-250). This was the only one I saw in my travels. I made it looked like I seen more for effect. But the amount of things I got from that sale were priced below market to such an extent I really should of looked up prices on on ole Georg there. I was too giddy from my $33 Viennese lamps and $100 Navajo rug haul. ******** up big time

Lessee...my old flatware is starting to look sad. I can 1) spend months haunting estate and garage sales, Craigslist, EBay, hoping for a unicorn, or 2) spend a couple of hours looking at it photos online and have a complete set at my door within days.

I mean I’m all for #1, but it’s kind of a dick move to sneer at folks who opt for the quick and easy route.
