Very cool. I'm unfamiliar with this type of bottle. Where's it from? Is it conceptualized as a first bottling bottle?

it holds 1.5 liters with the flared *skirt*, i guess i could call it a magnum? i've seen the shape referred to as 'teepee'...

probably midcentury studio work. you see a lot of german-made bottles around but i liked the sheer size plus the hunk of iron pressed into the shoulder. totally vitrified, functional for service or storage but dunno if anything was in there before.

I have no idea either, am curious, and just googled "salt glaze pottery". It seems a very interesting technique.

they toss salt into the kiln at heat, it evaporates and then condenses as glass on otherwise-unglazed wares. important in early american wares, often undecorated or with cobalt (here's some fun eyewash with stupid-tier $$$$ https://www.crockerfarm.com/highlights/).

I'm a green fiend. You can safely put green in any situation, and green will find a way to complement whatever you're doing. I'd say that green is a little loud, and the shapes are odd, but a little intriguing.

My favorite green sofas are Hollywood Regency sofas. My second favorite green sofas are Hollywood Regency Revival sofas.

Also, not to return to meta-convo which has long dominated this threak. I want to say that hating everything is ok. If somebody wants to *********** on something, they don't need to come back with a better way. Maybe there is no better way, or the person doesn't know the way, but they know what they're seeing is ****. We live in a sea of ****, and we are all gasping for breath.

It's unsettling to know how deep we're in the ****. For most people, it's not good to know how far out they are in the ****, because the distance to shore would overwhelm them and they would drown on the spot. This is what happens to most people. So it's better not knowing. But I feel people come here to know. People come here to see human misery.

I love every aspect of this threak. I love Foo. I love Vennessian. I love gdl bemoaning vicious takedowns when just a decade prior, in the prime of his manhood, he was instigating bare-knuckle brawls and taking on all comers. But to be fair, gdl has always backed up what he says with hard scientific data in the back of gypsy cabs. This is an ineluctable fact, and he has, and continues to, PUT IT ALL OUT THERE ON THE LINE111111

What does this all mean? I'll be damned if I know. But I think it means more pictures, and that some members should communicate through only images, like veniessain. I'm actually a psychologist who runs IQ test all day long, and I've never seen somebody with a spatial intelligence around the 176 mark, and with a verbal mark around 56. The discrepancy is so jarring that it can lead me to go off the rails a little bit. Others of course fall along a similar range, though are quite such special cases, and we should, as they say, play to members strong suits.

Actually all this is a lie. I'm Kyle and this is my way of getting back at gdl for making me sell OG Heschung boots and Kanata sweaters and pretend they're cool.

I need to buy a proper office chair. Wirecutter's top recommendations are way too expensive for my company's WFH allowance. They recommend this mid-range jobby:

Anyone have experience with it? The reluctant snob in me struggles with buying their budget choice:

I’ve got the Sayle. Good workhorse chair, lots of adjustability, and I like the mesh back.

@sugarbutch I have a Sayl st one office and my wife also uses a Sayl. She likes it more than I do. I opted for a Mira 2 at other office and home and prefer it.

Sayl not bad at all, I just like a higher back.

There was an extensive office chair "discussion" here months ago. Iirc you also participated. The search function here sucks, so, short story:

1) You really have to try them, even various models from the same manufacturer. Fit is foremost.
2) More $ do not mean better.
3) I tried them all (Herman Miller, Knoll, Steelcase, Humanscale, Vitra, some others) over a period of months.
4) I disliked the HM "Sayl" from the first sit. For comparison, a HM "Aeron V2/B or V2/C" fits me, the "Sayl" felt very cramped. (Also agree with @ValidusLA regarding the back; but I also disliked the "Mirra".)
5) My final choices were HM "Aeron V2/C"; Knoll "Life"; Steelcase "Think V2".
6) I bought the Steelcase, and after many months now of daily 10-14 hour sitting...I find it perfect in all regards. Really excellent. Aesthetics and quality of construction of course played a major part, once fit was sorted out.

Try various brands/models. To each their own. Avoid those GE "discounts". Etc etc.

I recall the discussion. Unfortunately, this isn't a great time for trying out a lot of options. I may be able to check out one or two, but an extensive survey is out of the question. I have never been particularly picky about office chairs, so my question is mostly a sanity check.

Does your company's WFH allowance permit you to return the chair if it does not satisfy you?

Hard for me to really recommend more than what I wrote. It is very subjective, esp given long days/weeks on end.

Before I tested, I was 99% I was going to buy the "Mirra" (or an Eames "EA107"); neither was appropriate for my purposes, and that was very clear within 10 minutes.

V is mostly right.

You really do need to get out to the stores. I can understand your reluctance, because I, too, feel that wearing a mask. i.e. Soviet Passport, impairs my fundamental liberties. These past months I've been using a fugazzi Soviet passport in a kind of secret protests and it's made me feel a lot better about my shopping endeavors.
