Hear Hear! I don't have anything massively exciting, but new chawan arrived today, and I like it!

Not my style, but that looks excellent actually, fwiw.

(Along these lines: I posted some work (clay work) I thought was wonderful and fresh many pages back now, with 0 commentary or judgment. I just they were really beautiful objects, guided by a very disciplined eye.

Most of the comments were interesting, until Mssr Teapot weighed in with the usual crap and stupid ad hominems. So, after umpteen pages of that bullshit, yeah I agree with gdl203 (even if he would never want me to), in that: **** that, indeed.)

'You like it, great, but I (we) really don't.' "
There’s an implicit assumption here that warrants examination. how important is it, really, to spend more than 3 words expressing yourself in such cases: “not my taste”.

If even that much is really necessary, which is debatable in itself.

We used to post things that we like. Now all this is, is a place where a handful of jerks lurk and wait for whoever will have the audacity to like something - so they can jump on that, rip it apart with entirely ridiculous grand statements, fugazi architect or antiquaire credentials, and totally personal preferences - then pepper the whole thing with vague attempts at middle school humor.

It ******* sucks.

post things you like.

There's still occasionally good discussion here. It's just the gatekeeping that's frustrating as hell to me.

Very cool. I'm unfamiliar with this type of bottle. Where's it from? Is it conceptualized as a first bottling bottle?

I understand what you are saying, but I thought the implicit assumption here was: let's post and discuss furniture, objects, etc., and not "taste" per se, certainly not "value systems and economic power", nor "pedigrees of any and all degree", nor "I'm so much snarkier than thou", etc.

So, perhaps "not my taste" alone isn't such a great contribution either, whereas "not my taste, because..." would be super, if delivered with a clear opinion, concisely.

With none of the other tedious maximum bullshit that lately prevails (including my own frustration with the bait and not-contributing-either posts too often). As a result of all that jive, those genuine and respectful dialogues seem to have been almost completely lost over the past few years, to great detriment. On occasion, new sprouts try valiantly to take seed, and then "guess what" happens shortly thereafter, often abolishing any positive traction.

This indeed used to be an excellent thread, imo. One of the few that kept me interested in StyFo, along with Lefty's (?) "Design work I wish I'd done" thread. Maybe one day it will be so again.

Wondering the same thing: is it a vase that refers to a champagne bottle, or intended as a usable bottle?

The best kind of propaganda is the kind that sticks throughout history.

Since I was last to take a big, steaming **** in this thread -- no further comment.
