but I dislike that small counter space right before the glass cabinet. I'm not sure what purpose it serves (you can't place anything there for any period of time), maybe to keep the cabinet flush with something else? I see it as it could have been a few extra inches of cabinet space (inches that multiply with the addition of each individual shelf) rather than an accent void of any real use. Then again, my kitchen is so tiny that each little spot makes a difference.

That cabinet is full of glasses, cups and bowls. The space is useful when you take a handful of glasses out or put the stuff back in from the dishwasher. Same thing with forks and knives that go in the drawer just below it.

That cabinet is already pretty deep - maybe too deep - I wouldn't want it deeper than that

I did once open the cabinet door while a glass was in front and sent the glass flying so I guess it's not ideal

fair enough, I can see the utility there. I tend to prefer lower but deeper since my other is only 5' 2". Our cabinets are soaring in height, I'm 5' 8" and I still have to climb a chair to reach certain things.

I think it would be great with a window somewhere in the middle of these cabinets to bring in some natural light

FWIW, this is ours. We didn't design it, the previous owners did - but we like it

I really like the marble you get a patina after a while!!! Very cool!

request: I need a suggestion for a knick knack or something for one of my walls. It's a space between two windows and is maybe 36" wide. No frames (we have plenty) and no shelving units (ditto). Any ideas? A lighting fixture is a possibility, suggestions here would be good too. Don't want to spend more than a few hundred.

CommercialDoc, nice island. I would never leave that kitchen. Does it open to a sitting area?

G, do you look into D & I's bedroom? What's the upcharge for that?

I need to pick up a new microwave.

Do you need one? I neglected to pick one up when I moved a few months ago and it is actually going quite well now that I have gotten used to it (though I didn't have one growing up which might make it easier)....just gotta remember to defrost meats ahead of time

Now I am at the point where I don't want to dedicate any of the available space in my kitchen to a microwave so this apartment may just remain old school

i have said it before and I'll say it again, toaster ovens are better than microwaves.

Baby bottles will easily fit in my toaster oven.

    A mirror?

but then I have to look at myself [IMG]

a mirror is in consideration. Found a few antique ones that we might consider. Have to order bookshelves first.
