Hiya, boys! In the market for an at-home office chair that is comfortable and supportive but doesn't look like ****.

My immediate impulse was the Eames Soft Pad Executive Chair but I've heard it can become uncomfortable after a while. I tend to stand at my desk a lot and don't necessarily need marathon support, but if I'm dropping a few grand I want it to look and cook.

Any recommendations?

HM Aeron or Mirra or Steelcase Leap are probably the most comfortable out there. We have both the Aeron and Mirra and I would say they are equal in comfort.

I have a leap V2 but I find myself missing the Aeron I used to have at work (size B with the fancier adjustable lumbar option, even though I am 6’2, I like the B a lot more than the larger C).

Honestly though, best thing you can do is sit in a bunch of chairs because everyone is different. Try the gesture, try the leap, try the Sayl, try the aeron, try some HON brand chairs.

Local office furniture liquidators usually have many different chairs from closing offices for good prices.

I have the Steelcase leap. Provides good back support and is comfortable. You can find them in a variety of colors.

I picked mine up refurbished and there’s been nothing wrong with it for the past couple years.

We used to have Soft Pads as conference room chairs.

They are great for that purpose, but I don't think they hold up against modern task-chair designs for spending sustained time in front of a computer. Also, I think the aluminum group *looks* better than the soft pad.

We also had Pollock Executive Chairs in another conference room...I liked the soft pad better.

Unfortunately I think the budget and the drive behind that stuff is gone. The re-done conference rooms have generic chairs that look like you'd get them at Staples.

I would echo the comment above about going to stores and trying a bunch of chair as comfort is a very personal thing. I used the have the Executive Eames Aluminium Group chair (ie. high back) at the office which is more or less the same chair as the Soft Pad Executive but with less padding. It's a great looking chair, but I found the ergonomic lacking (especially the lack of lumbar support) and the leather can feel a bit hot / sweaty. I feel it's a great chair for sitting and talking to people so it's perfect for a conference room, but not great for sitting in front of the computer.

I tend to slouch and have had issues with computer neck before so I have a strong preference for high back / head support. I have the Cosm high back at home and I couldn't be happier. It's not as good looking but I mostly work from home so I prioritized function. The offices at work have the Embody and from an ergonomic POV, it's as good as it gets.

+1 Love my Embody

Also, finally got my new Vitsoe shelves mounted and the space is so much more usable now. Was a great experience working with them and they include tons of extras for installation. Advice for removing carpet glued to metal stairs welcome as well

Are you struggling to get it off at all or concerned about the condition of the tread when it’s removed?

Not really concerned about the condition of the tread, more so about cleaning off the dried adhesive and refinishing the stairs after removing the carpet. Seems like I can just rip the treads off with my hands it's so brittle.

how do you like that muuto floor lamp? I am weary of integrated LEDs.
