Does anyone here know how John Varvatos' line of Converse shoes run when it comes to sizing?

I've always been told that you should size down 1 size for regular Converses, and was prepared to do the same with the Varvatos, but I notice that Varvatos' Converse shoes come in half-sizes (as opposed to nromal converse, which I guess only come in full sizes).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Pretty sure that varvatos and purcells size down about a half or true to size. Converse chucks size down about a full size.

Purcells fit half size larger than Chucks (both regular and varvatos), Purcells pretty much fit true to size (or half size smaller than tue if you're a full size smaller than true in chucks).

Also, normal Converses DO come in half sizes...

Weird, I've been to half a dozen local shoe stores and none carry any non-whole sized chucks, but I just checked ebay and found tons of half sizes.

Hmmm, I'm an 11, but size 10 chucks fit me better than size 11.
    I think I'll try 11 in Purcells.

purcell and varvatos run about 1/2 size smaller than chuck taylors. this is all relevant to where your big toe is in chucks though. if a 10 chuck fits you snugly you will definitely want a 10.5 in purcell/varvatos. or 11, whatever floats your boat check zappos.com for half sizes if you are having trouble finding them. free overnight shipping until march 31st (and i mean overnight -- i placed an order last week at 11 pm and it got here at 3 pm the next day.)

Thanks, but did you mean a half size bigger?

I'm tempted by zappos, just for the return policy, but ebay's $25 cheaper.

Usually a size 13, have a pair of size 12 Converse/Varvatos which I purchased in error (damn UK/US sizing conventions), but after a couple of wearings (and spray with some stretch solvent stuff) they fit quite comfortably. Slightly tight, but wearable.

I'd say purchase half a size down, or true to size if the shoes have the rubber toe-caps (which don't stretch at all, as discovered in another painful experience).

My lone pair of JV Converse ("One Star") model I think, in corduroy suede are a size up from my normal US size, 12 vs. 11-11.5.

    Hey guys,

so i was wondering if you could help. I am going to buy a pair of varvatos converses (purcells) online but I am totally not sure and reading the others dont help me much either.. so maybe you can clear up the fog for me..

I normally wear a 5.5(snug fitting) or 6 (not so snug fitting :p) for Vans slip-ons...

I have a pair of converses (chuck taylors) and they are a size 6 and about an inch in extra space from the big toe and they are a bit to loose for me...

would you recommend then, that I go for the size 5 or 5.5 ?

    Thanks!

    -Col

I'd say 5.5. I have a pair of chucks that are a half size too large for me (sounds like your chucks are a full size too large if the difference is an inch), but the size on the chuck is the perfect size for my purcells (8.5).

Exact same situation. My 8.5 Chucks are kinda big, but JV Purcells in that size fit right.

IME, my Purcell is about the same size as my Chucks. And the Varvatos were about 1/2 size larger than both.

I think the bottom line is that they're inconsistent in size, depending on where they're made.

All I can add is that I own a pair of distressed leather sandals by Varvatos, in the traditonal Greek style, that I truly love. They ran a little large. I'd say a half size or so.

not that this thread wasn't confusing enough already, but what you're saying is a varvatos chuck is a half size bigger than a traditional chuck? i'm planning on buying a pair of the crazy lace varvatos chucks. i wear an 8 in regular chucks so according to your estimation i should go with a 7.5?

i thought the varvatos chucks were basically the same as regular chucks just with a different lace and eye hole configuration.
