I thought the fact that people in Hong Kong, who can't tell Michael Douglas from Michael Fox, would make them look less of a tool with contrasting collars. But having seen a guy in the office wearing just that...what a tool he was!
I think they are only acceptable when the contrast is very slight, preferably with some faint stripes on the shirt, and no contrasting cuffs. With a very carefully matched tie and suit.
