I am re-posting this as a separate thread following Lonneker's suggestion, to get a bit more feedback. I would like to commission this shirt over the next three days, whilst De L'Ero of Satriano 5 will be in London for the first of many returning visits.

One of my "shirt project idea" that i have been thinking of recently has been a contrasting collar shirt. The traditional type is usually made with an duck egg blue or bengali blue striped body and white collar and cuff. As a more unique look I was thinking of a micro poppytooth in light blue and white. I would like to know what the forum thinks of this idea?

I am not really looking on opinions on contrasting collar & cuff shirt being good or bad, but on the choice of fabric design.

Thanks,

Marco

I have been at the Marinella's shop in Maddox street today to meet Luca, Satriano 5/De L'Ero cutter that has been responsible for my first order. I have not finalised the order yet but I have shortlisted 3 fabrics: 1 Blue Bengali stripes (3mm blue/4.5mmwhite stripes) and a very light blue puppytooth, both from the Royal twill Collection by Thomas Mason and a Pink Piquet with a 1mm white stripe also by Thomas Mason.

They had two books of TM fabrics and several rolls of Carlo Riva fabric. We have discussed small amendments to my patterns and once I have though a bit over the fabric shortlist I will finalise my order.

1. I think that when the contrast is very slight (like like blue and white) it is very cool and very classy. that is my own, personal, taste

2. I don't like the idea of the collar and cuff being anything but clean plain snow white fabric, myself. again, personal feeling. when I see the collar and cuffs with a pattern, I really haven't liked it

3. I like textured fabric for the body - so a light blue puppy tooth would be cool

This is in the category of 'if you must'. The choice of fabric is pretty well academic - not at all good and a poor look. Nay, I'll be kind and say 'quirky'.

Thanks for the contribution. I did post an update earlier but did not get uploaded. Again it is also about regionality and possible usage. I see contrasting collar shirts on a daily basis in London on pretty sharply dressed people. In Italy it would also look pretty sharp and with the morning dress at the Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot, the best choice.
