Contentious Statement: 'Sartorial' is blown.

Let's create a dialogue, friends.

This one begins with needless contention:

The term "sartorial," particularly as used within this forum and in various clothing magazines, has become increasingly cloying and reads poorly. Accomodate my tastes through alteration of your behavior or crucify me here, please.

It wouldn't be the first unfortunately. How about these other victims: well-cut, couture, bespoke, custom?

I guess what I'm saying is this:

Think about real life, where you interact on a physical basis with objects and people (kind of like objects except they are more obnoxiously difficult to bend to your will). Think about saying the word "sartorial." Think about its journey from your mind to your vocal cords to its final exit. Think about the syllables that comprise the word, and the face they will elicit from the speaker. Think about how eminently slappable such a face is.

Is all I'm saying.

Needless, it is!

It's a useful word. It can be used badly, like many other words. It doesn't bother me particularly.

With the current war against various words at SF I think all we'll be left with is

"Me like clothes."

"Shoes...pretty."

Pretentious isn't quite what I'm stabbing at here.

I use words to express my meaning. End of story. If sartorial is the one that does it, it gets used, if it doesn't, I choose another. Some people write well, some people don't, some are poseurs, and some are simply themselves. What are we talking about?

Regards,
Huntsman

I'm with Huntsman on this one. This thread has 'Creatures under a bridge impressions'.
