Construction of BB peal monk straps?

Welcome to Style Forum, Thurston! That Brooks/Peal monk shoe definitely does not have a glued sole. It has what is called a "channeled sole" (or more properly a "closed channeled sole), in which the stitching that attaches the welt to the sole is hidden under a flap of leather on the bottom of the sole. After the stitching is completed in the channel cut on the bottom, the flap is folded back and glued in place. The bottom of the sole is then finished off so that any evidence of the stitching and the flap is completely eliminated. This is the best quality of sole construction available in shoes. That particular monk shoe is most likely made for Brooks Brothers by Crockett & Jones of England, a top English manufacturer of excellent-quality shoes. It is a dead ringer for their Malvern and Grosvenor models, although with the channeled sole, the Brooks/Peal is, if anything, a little nicer. There is some chance that it is made by Alfred Sargent of England (another English shoe manufacturer producing excellent-quality shoes), and, without looking more closely at the shoes, it is impossible for me to know which of the two it is. (Other forumers might know the answer without inspecting the shoes.) In any case, these shoes are of really high quality, and if the price is within your budget, you can't go wrong with them. Hope this helps.

I have these exact shoes. Though I'm not knowledgeable enough to know who actually made them, I can attest to their quality. I have three pairs of BB oxfords made by Alden and these monks were better made, IMO.
