    He's not going to listen to or learn anything from any of you. He will be back to eating deep fried snickers bars ala mode for a midnight snack within a week.

    The point of this thread is not, "help me plan and stick to a diet". Just like the point of "I am desperate and alone, and turned down by annoying, fat, hairy chicks" is not him asking you for dating advice.

    The sooner you realize that, the less tine you'll waste trying to "help" him.

    SField et al., I could do with some recipes. I like grilled chicken, fish (salmon, haddock, cod, perch, etc.), pork occasionally. For example I bought some cilantro yesterday at the store. What should I do with it? I thought about making "mexican style" shredded pork tacos.

    Uh huh. You are totally worth stalking too. You lead such an interesting life. Remind me again, how many times people have given you good advice on this forum over the years, which you continue to ignore, while continuing to be a complete waste of a human being? You obviously find it amusing and you desire the attention so much that it keeps happening over and over again. I'm just helping you get the attention you crave.

    Ignore the useless personalized preconceived 'likes'. Start buying things you've never had before. Even stuff as simple as different-colored beans. Stop relying on recipes and rely on taste. Most people just eat until they're full or their self-consciousness tugs its leash and they never really taste anything (which is why 'satiation bombs' -- as I call them -- are so popular among gluttons).

    The density of the fats does him no good in his hunger management. And he needs the energy. A low carb diet is the perfect recipe to get him back to where he started after he inevitably fails.

    43# off since Labour Day, by removing simple carbs about 97% from my diet. I've found it's a perfect recipe for a busy person that has to eat out on a regular basis. I'm not a breakfast person on workdays, so keep that in mind when I post a hypothetical day:

    Breakfast = large coffee with 1/2&1/2 and Splenda

    Morning snack = low salt roasted cashews

    Lunch = nice salad with grilled chicken breasts. Have whatever dressing you feel like, as long as it's not got carbs in it

    Dinner = sauteed cabbage, homemade pork sausage, two glasses dry red wine

    Snack = 1-2 oz good cheese.

    Drink lots of water, cut down spirits to say, two drinks a week, move to dry wine.

    Every couple of weeks, eat whatever you feel like for a day. Overall, stress lean cuts and lean protein, lots of green leafy veggies, take a daily multi-vit, do not eat any concentrated sweet.

    Honestly, we could all go on and on about the benefits of cleaner eating. But doing the above would make the transition easier and provide more than "just" health benefits. You'd be eating better not necessarily because of the positive things it would do to your body, but because these foods actually taste better.

    We're definitely a fast food culture and not just with the drive-thru joints, either. Our taste buds have been bitchslapped by bastardized "food" that swaps out genuine flavor for intensified saltiness or richness.


    Honestly, we could all go on and diffuse surfeiture problems to the collective instead of the individual and continually think of all aspects of food as part of some fully objective system, but then we'd exacerbate the main problem -- senselessness -- and have to endure pointless and ugly phrases like 'clean eating', 'cutting', 'healthy', and make threads on protein shake recipes.

    You're clearly not 'ahead', since you missed his general point by focusing on an overt but inconsequential detail. Try making bechamel with olive oil.

    +1 I'm using more butter now than ever. Not only does it make things taste great, my cholesterol has dropped 100 points, proving you can consume a reasonable amount of animal fat and maintain proper lipid profiles.

    I never used to really believe the impact all the processed sugars in a "normal" diet had. I am now a huge believer in this concept.

    I have about 100x more energy at 213 than I did at 256. I am not working out again yet, as I want to stay focused on the weight loss process, plus I tend to be compulsive about things. I'm avoiding teh weights as the three times in my life I really got into them, I really got into them. Once the weight loss is complete, I'll start 2-3 moderate weight sessions a week.     Yeah, though not rigorously. I try to do 30-40 minutes on a stationary bike 4-5 days a week, plus some light weights. I usually eat more proteins on those days. What's a good "carry it with you" protein snack? Nuts?

    There isn't anything wrong with having snacks such as string cheese, nuts, etc. handy if it means he's not going to opt for some bullshit out of the vending machine.

    Nuts are an incomplete protein. They lack at least one of the amino acids, so if you want to get their benefit, you need to eat them with another type of incomplete protein with the amino acid the first source is missing or a complete protein (animal sources: milk, meat, eggs, whey) to get an effect. So in the case of nuts, they can be paired with whole grains to make a complete protein, so you could try a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread, although the bread isn't exactly healthy. Nuts have many calories and you'd have to eat quite a few to get any substantial protein. Brown rice & beans are complementary incomplete proteins so that's a good meal choice. You could try making a soup with both and bringing one of those dorky thermoses around.

    'Incomplete protein' is a broism that conjures up a dichotomy which really doesn't exist in vivo.

    I'm under the impression they don't support hypertrophy compared to complete proteins, although I'm guessing it makes negligible difference on Conne if his idea of working up a sweat is playing air drums along with Art Blakey.

    The liver maintains sufficient levels of all 20 amino acids, so a protein's 'completeness' is really only a measure of its structural amino acid congruency with the amino acid structure of the reassembled proteins. In other words, some sources of protein contain an excessive amount of an amino acid the body might not need and are consequently converted into energy. The 'complete' proteins are just as capable of containing excess amino acids as 'incomplete' proteins -- the 'excess' is really not easily quantifiable. Most Americans get enough protein in their diet, although Conne might not unless he supplements with a few more visits to the semen spigot.

    Proof is in the pudding (no carb). 43#'s and the couple of abnormal labs well within normal referencing now. I know many people that did not carefully add tons of veggies, leaner proteins, some highly complex carbs, and the occasional splurge day and ended up fatter and with gout. All the empirical data I can gather, from my resting pulse dropping to 52 (was in the 40s when I was fitter and younger), my blood pressure (116/78 the other day) my energy level, my weight, and three sets of lab draws in the last several months.

    Today's log, 3/6/10

    3 scrambled eggs, salt & pepper
    Handful of blueberries
    12 oz. or so of orange juice
    1 cup black coffee
    1 slice mulitgrain toast w/PB

    3 PM:
    mesquite turkey (.15 lb or so), spinach, tomato, sun dried cranberries, vermont cheddar on multigrain
    6 oz. organic strawberry yogurt
    1 Coca Cola Zero

    1 Kashi TLC bar (cereal bar)
    1 banana

    1 can Amy's Southwestern Vegetable soup
    1 chicken breast, grilled, w/lemon, pepper and lots of spinach with olive oil/balsamic

    3 reduced fat Chips Ahoy cookies

    Had water with dinner and a few gulps of milk.
