Conditioning shell cordovan?

Do you condition it?
I know the thin layer of polish part, the brusing and buffing part, but do you use a conditioner on it?
What about water spots that have dried?

nah, dont do it. wet cloth and brush is my conditioning. shell is not porous, so that's why using a cream or conditioner is not worthwhile. it doesn't soak in and you'll end up wiping it off.

No, I meant the latter of course. My shell does not get conditioned.

You mean those welty things?

Yes, they will come off. Take some cream polish and rub it into the spots with some force--against a hard surface like a shoe tree on the inside if possible. Bengal stripe recommended using the back of a spoon, but I've never needed to go that far.

If you're talking about a different sort of spot, pls clarify.

On another note, these things are sweet and I now know why you all love the shell.

After Ron Rider sent me some Saphir cream with my order of shell cordovan shoes, Saphir creams are all I use on my shell cordovan shoes. It seems to condition calfskin shoes and it shines up calfskin and shell cordovan very nicely. I had a young lady tell me last Friday "You wear the nicest shoes. And how do you get them so shiny?"

I go against what alot of people say and only use Alden boot cream on my Cordovan. Paste always seemed to leave my cord hazy, but the boot cream does an incredible job, and the end result is a great shine and crystal clear finish. I do this every two wears or so with no complaints.
