I just moved to Etobicoke (West Toronto) and I'm looking for a competent tailor for alterations I'd like on 3 jackets.

It's easy to find recommendations for central Toronto but I hate driving downtown (or taking transit) just to get a little tailoring done. I'd also like to take most of the shirts and pants I buy to the same place, so having to spend 2 hours on a bus in order to get things worked on is unreasonable. I'm not looking for someone to make a suit here, that I will go downtown for.

I'd like to get the lining removed (mostly) from two linen jackets and the chest pockets shallowed, and some basic basic fitment issues solved on another. I wouldn't trust a mall alternationist to do any of that… it seems most can barely hem pants… they're not going to butcher my jackets… even if they're cheap ones.

What intersection is most convenient for you?

What I would recommend is simply asking around everywhere you go and check your local Yellow Pages. Many local Dry Cleaning shops also do alterations so perhaps that is a possibility.
For the sake of newcomers who are lurking and learning, when starting out with a new person doing your alterations, give them a few smaller jobs to do. This will establish a good rappore and allow you to test their skills before commiting to a larger project.
Regrettably, I am unfamiliar with your area but hopefully others may ring in.

I've never had much luck going to places that do dry cleaning too… I've even had basic hemming botched. I might be picky… but I'm not sure I'd trust them to clock the sleeves on a jacket, or shorten them from the top. Right now I've got a pair of linen jackets I want as much lining as possible removed from (without affecting the drape) and the shoulder pads replaced with thinner ones.

Are you on the 401 at all to/from work? If so and you head east to Bathurst, Paul's Tailors are good and seconds off the 401.

Sorry, I can't think of a decent place any closer to you.

Honestly I rather spend 2 hour on the bus to get to a really good tailor than use a questionable one whos closer..

On the contrary, I barely have any spare time at all now a days, however I simply meant that I rather spend the extra time to ensure something is done right, that's all. Apologies if it offended you.

No problem! I haven't needed to go in for a while, but they've always done good work in the past. And they're really proud of some of their celeb clientele (if you count former NHL players as celebs I guess).

I've been thinking about going here to get some shirts and pants tailored.. Do you know if they have parking available? Or only on Bathurst :S

There is definitely free parking on the side street just north of them. They might even have their own free parking behind them.

I hadn't been there in a few years so made a return trip a few weeks ago after replying to this thread. Definitely not the best customer service, and they sort of just started pinning things without asking how I wanted it and seemed to pay me very little attention (I guess they were a bit busy). In the end they did a good job though but I probably won't be going back.
