It is indeed possible, as it has been done by some members of this forum in the past. Normally the minimum would be between 30 and 60 meters, which is in fact not that much.
Not sure about sourcing the yarn yourself, this will be trickier as it involves very specific knowledge about and the suppliers are not that well know for the end customer, while the mills/merchants are.
Huddersfield Fine Worsted is one of the merchants that is quite open to custom orders, btw. Fox as well.
