Hi all, would just like to get some comments and feedback for 2 3 piece suits I intend to tailor for my own wedding.

I have sorta decided to go with navy and grey, colours that I can use outside of a wedding too.

What do you think of these two pieces?

Either would be OK, a little too much fashion for a long life but Ok just now.

You should avoid traditional work suit shades (i.e. navy, charcoal), it is your wedding after all, in my opinion. Have you considered mid-grey, blue, black and white glen check - they are shades that very re-useable although away from work environment.

I do dislike the styles above; however, maybe it is the right occasion to go for something fashion-forward (while keeping more traditional cuts for your work suits and formal-wear).

Strongly disagree.

Navy/charcoal would be fine for a wedding and the suit could then be used for work afterwards. Black really would not be right (an winds no friends here - but that is another story) and white glen check is far too informal. You were right in the first place, go for it.

Can't agree with this. Charcoal and navy may be seen often in the office but they are also appropriate for formal occasions. Of course something like pinstripes should be avoided, but here we're dealing with two solid suits in traditional colors that have been worn to weddings that do not call for formalwear for a century.

It's worth recalling that the OP was quite explicit in his intentions: he wants a suit he can wear to his wedding *and* for other (unstated) purposes after; "I have sorta decided to go with navy and grey, colours that I can use outside of a wedding too" were his exact words.

That's a pretty good argument in favor of charcoal or navy, as far as colors go; both are certainly common at weddings that aren't full formal.

Cheers,

Ac

P.s.- I agree that those narrow lapels will probably go out of style at some point (soon, I hope ...) and that that will limit the suit's appropriateness down the road.

I went with a dark midnight navy, and grey. I think darker colours suit me cause I am quite fair.. damn my asian skin!, and I am certain I don't want to get a colour that will look out of place if I wear it to work, e.g. white/sky blue etc.

Btw I am talking about the colours in my original post, not the style or lapels. I am not a fan of rock star thin lapels either for that matter.

I find this suit looks good, simple but extremely elegant and masculine. I think it will be very suitable for your wedding ceremony. By the way, congratulations on the wedding.

We're almost ten years down the line, I think it is more fair to hope that they are still together than to congratulate him
