comments about the buying and selling thread

is it just me, or has there been an excessive amount of (1) multiple threading by the same seller, and (2) bumping lately?

i'm looking at the first couple of pages of the buying and selling forum, and while not naming names, it seems that some sellers are putting up multiple threads, each thread devoted to one item, and then bumping that page up somewhat frequently.

it seems annoying, and it seems to be triggering some sort of gamemanship where a seller will put 3 or 4 threads up, other sellers will put 3 or 4 threads up, and then we'll get bumping between the sellers as they jockey to stay on the first page.

I've noticed it as well. I try to put up one consolidated list of items, but will admit to bumping up occassionally. Buyers will miss things, especially after a couple of days. I've never thought about it being on the first page, but then again I don't read the forum by category, but rather across all subforums based on what's newest.

It is getting excessive. Within reason, sellers should be limiting themselves to one thread each and not bumping frequently.

It's also a problem with a lot of new members that don't seem to contribute much of anything to the forum except multiple sales threads. Those need to be "moderated."

Perhaps a limit to the number of selling threads one member can start within a 24hr period is in order. I would not object. As far as bumps, sellers who bump too often and without cause just alienate potential buyers imo, who are also more likely to buy from regular and long-time posters. I prefer free markets over excessive regulation or intervention.

There should be a separate buying & selling sub-fora for Streetwear and Denim.

It's becoming a self-perpetuating problem. There are so many threads -- and so many threads being bumped -- that you have to bump more often just to keep your thread visible.

I don't mind if someone has separate threads for, say, a 48L suit and a pair of 32 trousers by a different maker. But when a seller is bumping four or five threads, and there are three or four sellers doing that, then it just becomes unmanageable.

Ultimately, it's a matter of politeness, and common sense should dictate how much is too much. Hopefully, this discussion alone will help reduce the problem.

(Also, as a seller, I'd be happy to hear any complaints/suggestions about my threads. Just zip me a PM.)

Not gonna happen guys. If you don't want to buy hoodies or jeans, that's fine, no need to look at the threads. It's pretty obvious from the titles what is for sale. There are enough subfora only, and the streetwear and Denim forum was meant to create a space specifically to fill what was a lare demand at the time. The Men's clothing and Streetwear & Denim subfora were not created to segregate the Styleforum community. That discussion is closed. Please respect that.

As for the excessive bumping, that will be addressed (I am going to post to that effect). I have no problem with a seller posting one item per thread.

I just posted in the "Rules" thread to this effect. In Styleforum tradition, I have not laid down any stone tablet of rules, but a general set of guidelines. Whether a particular poster is following these guidelines will be left to the moderators' judgement and and what happens when a poster deserves a good rap on the knuckles or more will be at the moderators' discretion.

Could we set up a mandatory format for the subject line on sales threads so we know better what things are, and therefore those who only want businesswear would no longer have to check streetwear threads?

posts like "FS: some of my stuff" should not be allowed.

it should be mandatory to post "FS: (type of clothes) (brands)" or something to that effect.

Specify a range if you can. This is true also if you're selling a range of brands.
The point is to be as specific as possible in the title.
