Comfortable Shoe Quandary

Ok I am turning to the collective wisdom of SF for help with some new shoes. Every now and then for work I have to stand for up to 12 hours, and as silly as it sounds sometimes I may have to run in them (I know, I know...).

Certain requirements include that they be lace-up and conservative. I'm looking to spend $250 max for these (including shoes on special). They will only be worn for dark gray, navy blue suits.

Also they have to be as slip resistant as possible, so I may need rubber soles. This is uncharted territory for me so I appreciate any suggestions.

Try Rockport; or Cole Haan may make something with Nike Air in it for the running. AE used to make a style called Stockbridge with had a rubber sole and some extra cushioning. It was a split toe blucher.

Now the important question, what the hell do you do? Secret Service - running next to the motorcade? Ask some fellow agents what they wear.

I also recommend Rockport or Cole Haan.

At 250, look for the rubber soled Johnston and Murphy shoes. Rockports are also an option for this (and I've run in mine when I used to do different work), but I find the Johnston and Murphy shoes dressier. Keep them black, and no one will likely notice.

At a higher price point (350-400), I'd say Alden. I have a pair with a rubber sole that is absolutely the most comfortable dress shoe I've tried. I'd compare them to boots in how they feel and are constructed. I'm really trying hard to not buy more.

Both my pairs of rockports are probably a full size too big. One of them is ancient (bought in 8th grade, college senior now) and hasnt been cared for much except in the past 2 years though I only started wearing dress shoes heavily this summer. The other one is new and has barely any wear, not that you could tell from the corrected grain creasing and ill-fit folds (I keep them at work for just-in-case).

That being said, they are both super comfortable shoes. The new ones feel nicer in some parts but the corrected grain robs from it while the old ones have a leather that takes a nice polish and has held up well with very little care (maybe that means "they dont make them like they used to"). Either way, I think if they were a size down they would get quite frequent wear.

It may seem odd, but my Alden longwings, which have a double-sole, are my go-to shoes for when I'm doing a full day of walking and standing. They are heavy shoes, but the most comfortable that I have. However, I don't think I'd ever try to run in them.
