Comfortable office (suit) shoes for £100-150 (UK)

Hi,

I'm after a pair of Oxfords or similar £100-150 they must be comfortable and not have corrected grain.

I've had the following brands mentioned to me in a thread I started a few years back on AskAndy:

Sanders
Alfred Sargent
Samuel Windsor (which I am a bit hesitant about)
Loake 1880

If anyone has any thoughts on other brands - I intend to enquire at Discount Shoe Sales (Strutton Ground) and make a trip to Bicester Village, so other brands may be in reach.

Check herring shoes sale offerings in your size. Also take a look at the Knightsbridge (Loake for Herring) and Mayfair (Barker for Herring) which are _almost_ in your range - £155 and £175 respectively.

Loake and sanders would have offerings in your price range at full retail, I'd guess AS would need to be on sale, similarly on sale Barker's or Cheaney's might fall to your required pricing. In all of the above, watch out for the corrected leather offerings.

Pediwear also has some on sale. For example, the Barker Lionel is £100 right now, though I can't make out what the toe shape is.

Yes having had a chat with a shoe shop it seems that having struggled through the recession Alfred Sargent have now decided to go more expensive and have cut all their previous entry-level shoes. Though Pediwear still stock: http://www.pediwear.co.uk/sargent/ranges/78.php

You can get Church's custom grade shoes, at Bicester village, for £160 down from around £375-£415 depending on the style. They will be in Nevada Calf as opposed to the bookbinder leather used in their regular line.

This is by far the best quality/ price ratio you are going to find at your price point (assuming you are willing to spend the extra £10).

These all look like decent choices. Avoid Samuel Windsor at all costs. You might also want to look out for Cheaney.

I recently bought the Belgravia in Chestnut. They look good in person.

You've got a range in style, I'd settle that first. Specifically a range in how much brogueing you're looking at, and also a mix of open and closed lacing (the Cheam, Stanley and Belgravia being closed, the Hilton and Hampton are open). I'd settle the style first, then work from there. If you decide you want something plain, you wouldn't compare the Cheam to the Belgravia, you'd compare it to the shoes I mentioned earlier - the Mayfair or Knightsbridge. If you want a semi-brogue, again you could probably narrow that down to a few close models by the different makers.

That said, I don't think you'll be terribly wrong with any of these shoes.
