As you can see from my photo I am quite the red-faced, red-bearded young man. I have looked for guides on what colors go well with my complexion, but I cannot seem to find any.

Blues seem to the logical choice, and grays tend to look good on everybody, but what colors really shine when paired with red hair?

And no I do not dye my any of my hair.

Don't just choose a color; the shade and intensity are just as important, and maybe more so in your case.

So would more muted tones of blue or gray or whatever to preferable to brighter or bolder shades?

Read Carole Jackson's Color for Men, as well as the section for color in Alan Flusser's Dressing the Man.

Fellow ginger here. Browns, darker greens, blues work for me.

Purple also "goes", but simply color matching doesn't necessarily make something stylish...

I don't know about green. My height and coloration will quickly invite comparisons to leprechauns.

I say accentuate your ginger features. Try this:

I think that would be a good move on his part but the colors you should certainly avoid is orange (for obvious reasons), red (for almost the same reasons as orange) and saturated pinks.

I'm a ginger as well, kind of. My beard is full on red where as my hair is kind of a sandy blonde. The daywalker distinction is funny. I guess I'm a daywalker.

While ginger girls look great in green, ginger men in green invites way too many leprauchan comments. If you're going to do it, do a very dark green, like the green equivalent of navy.

Personally I wear a lot of navy and blues just because I think layered blues look great, but it also goes with my eyes which is a good natural color to emphasize. Aside from that, I've seen ginger girls look great in layered shades of brown, while making sure to always keep some contrast with skin tone (nothing too light). Some ginger girls look great in black. It's a pretty harsh contrast against the skin but it works for some. I personally avoid this.

One thing I really want to try is darker browns. Like chocolate type shades. That would probably look pretty good on a red head dude.

In summary:
-Blues to play up the eyes
-Darker colored shirts/suits to contrast the skin tone
-Browns/tans go well with the hair
-Never wear green unless you want to be a leprauchan. If you must, wear very dark greens

Fellow ginger here as well.

Blues are your friend. Browns and greens are also great (the more ginger you are, the darker these shades should probably be). We also do great in pink (muted, of course) and silvers are good accent colours. Black is also good, but cool it if you're particularly pale and male.

Yellows are not good. Red is very tricky, and is very dependent on the shade of red and exactly how... ginger... you are. Purple, ditto.
