pink and navy work well together. as do indigo and khaki.

i've been looking for pants/shorts that would look nice with a blue & white seersucker shirt recently...

In clothing, I like:

dark grey with black
grey with blue
light grey with a bright saturated "summer" color
blue with desaturated green

More adventurous color schemes I like, even though I don't wear them:

orange with dark olive green
pink and orange
light cyan with olive
red with magenta
light cyan, olive, red, magenta

Blue is the most polyvalent color of all, I suspect because it's the broadest end of the spectrum (how many shades of blue can you nave, vs. shades of green and red?)

Really, most combinations of chroma will "work" so long as there's sufficient contrast in value and saturation. In practice, what you have to watch out for are the subtle, almost imperceptible hues that cause items to clash (slightly reddish colors paired with slightly greenish colors seem to be the worst offenders here.)

To throw some possibly rarer ones in the mix: lime green/indigo royal blue/indigo orange/light khaki yellow/light khaki I also really like the palette in this guy's fit from MC:

Most often, denim (of varying shades, but mostly dark) paired with black, grey, or navy. I also wear muted shades of red, green, and blue, usually in a print shirt. Though they best suit my complexion, I rarely wear earth tones, and white/cream generally washes me out.

I wish I could pull off paler shades like the guy in the outfit above though

Yes, but of course many colors go well with those that they aren't directly across from. It's just a starting point.

You choose the ones that look nice together to match.

Ha so true. You obviously need to look at colourings and whats in and out of fashion, you can see what they are mixing and matching. I guess i don't necessarily think too much about colours , it just seems obvious, well to me , not sure why. Good info here though. Well done guys
