Nikolaus Tuczek of #17 Clifford Street is a legend in the trade among historians and collectors.

The importance of this master is also confirmed by the fact that George Cleverley, began his career with Nikolaus Tuczek in 1920 and remained with the firm 38 years before opening his own workshop.

Nikolaus Tuczek stylistic influence can be seen clearly in the present pair of slippers, and, indeed in the work of many great shoemakers including Lobb who name more than one style after that master.

The beauty, not to mention the historical importance of this lovely loafer cannot be overstated. You are wearing a bit of history if you are wearing this shoe.

My hat is off to Crockett for their recognition of the great tradition handed down by these masters and for the exceptional quality they have achieved here.

Tuczek's designs, which this Crockett version follows closely, are exceptionally sleek and most often feature his characteristic chiseled toe and elastic side gussets.

It can be conjectured that this was Tuczek’s legacy to modern shoemaking as there is little else to compare with the dramatic lasting and the intricate detailing of the Tuczek style.

But finally, as with any work of art, it is the overall effect of the design, the harmony of elements that distinguishes this shoe from similar but not as successful example.
