If so - can anyone give me any info on these hallmarked collar stiffeners?

Looks like UK 9 ct gold marks. Picture is too small to see the assay office mark...

Unfortunately no

They're second hand - £70. Was looking for a pair of silver stiffeners but then spotted these. Not sure if they're worth it. Think a decent new pair goes for around £140ish.

Wouldn't gold stays be unnecessarily heavy (to say nothing of expensive)?

I have plastic ones. They work equally as well, and they look exactly the same!

The more I look at the hallmark the more the assay looks like Sheffield. As to value - I think it's a fair price if you particularly want gold rather than plastic. Personally the extra expense for something invisible (and no more functional) wouldn't be worth it...

I've always been curious, what is the advantage of metal stays over plastic stays? Is it just that they don't get bent if you accidentally wash them or something?
