Collar differences

Ok so I'm new so don't roast me for asking the question. Are the different collar options just a personal choice? Or is there a specific time to wear a different style of collar?

Its largely a personal choice but:

* Windsor Collar is most useful with a Windsor Knot. You need a chunky knot to fill the gap of a cut-away collar.

*Narrow spread collars are more modern, and often flattering for those with longer faces

*Windsor/Cutaway collars are more traditional; some people see this as good, some as bad. Its all about how you like to look.

#1 is clearly the most versatile and pleasing look of the 3 pics you posted. I know it's all about opinions but I just cant understand how anyone thinks those spreads, especially the severe spread in number 2, could look flattering on anyone no matter what shape their boat race is.

I usually recommend the cutaway to gents who are ... more rotund than most? As the collar slides off towards the shoulders it moves with the contours of the body, a pointed collar would simply highlight the fact they have man-boobs.

Mainly yes it is a matter of personal preference also you want to knot of your tie and correspond with the collar of the shirt and the collar of the shirt to correspond with the lapel of your suit jacket. The knot of the tie should have an equal distancing from tip to tip of the collar depending on the tie knot you use. Also you want to tips of the collar to extend to the lapel of the jacket. And remember the larger the knot the wider spread you want you shirt ot have in it's collar and vice versa.
