Cold weather -- bad for sportcoat?

The firm I work for has a pretty casual dress code but I always keep a sportcoat in my car just in case I have to go to court. Are there any long-term consequences doing so? I live in Michigan and, oh boy, it has been frigid!

I suppose whether the jacket was fused or not may make a difference. It may not be so much the cold but rather the changes in temperature throughout the day that could cause damage. If the jacket is fused this may have some effect on the glue.

I'm just speculating, so perhaps a tailor may no better.
