For those more advanced around here (of which I do not consider myself), sock colors can be used as accent pieces. To those seeking merely to match and look good, socks ought to always match trousers as closely as possible (especially in a conservative business environment).

A propos of socks, I live in tropical Liberia and I buy wool socks by the dozen for use here. Been doing this for years. It is a myth that wool socks (like reasonable-weight wool trousers) is too warm for tropical wear.

Navy socks with the navy suit definitely works. Coloured stripes for the advanced.

The general idea is that the overall tone of the socks match the trousers. Either navy or grey socks can be found with some slight patten or contrast that would work well.
