Can anyone recommend me one? Church's store here is a bit useless when it comes on how to care about my shoes. What I really need, is a recommendations on the shade of the creams that I have to buy.

Church's store, recommends neutral for every shoe I have from them (except the black ones).

I'm a little way away from Edinburgh so can't advise very specifically, but sadly my experience is that the craftsman cobbler in the UK has been more or less entirely replaced by the shoe destroyers who also cut keys, using the same tools judging by the last pair of shoes I had resoled. I'd love to know if you find someone decent but I'd have thought if you post photos SF members can probably advise on colours/makes of polish they've used.

I've not noticed anything in Embra, at least not in the centre or Stockbridge/West End. But if you're after advice rather than resoling, I'd have thought here would serve a purpose. If you're after resoling, probably best ask one of the local independent shops where they recommend (Walker Slater had a decent supply of Alfred Sargent shoes when I was back for Xmas and the staff are all well-shod. I'd guess they'd have a view on where the best place for resoling is. Maybe Ede and Ravenscroft as well?). But, for a city that prides itself on its respectability and conservatism (with a small c), there's a real lack of such places. It's where I'm from and I love it but, in the old adage 'all fur coat and nae knickers'. The beginning of the end was when Jenners was taken over.

Buy shoe polish in the right color online. Preferably saphir.

You can pretty much guess the right color in their lineup.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
