Hey,

Just wondering if the right over left for women and left over right for men rule always applies?

I have been given a vintage Armani coat that buttons right over left and am concerned it is a womens jacket.

Cheers.

FAIK, the rule is a pretty hard and fast one especially for RTW clothing. Am I correct to assume there is no tag with a size marked? Post some fit pictures.

No tag size.

The fit is great and it looks great too.

I will try post some pics soon as.

Bit of a shame really.

Cheers.

If it buttons right over left, it is a women's garment.

But if it fits you, and does not appear to be a women's garment, I can't see how it would be a shame. Where it.

If it's just a blazer you can sew shut the buttonhole, add a slightly bigger button on top of it, and have another buttonhole made to make it left over right. It is probably a womans jacket, however. This is a rule that comes from men carrying swords, i.e. hundreds of years old.

Yes it does - quite strictly and even for bespoke would be absolutely exceptional to unhread of.

You have a woman's jacket m'lord!!

I'll wager that jacket has never been used as a rowing boat.

I would like to see pics, normally a womans jacket would have more room for bewbs, so if it fits, it may just be a quirk. Armani was known back in the day for doing odd things.

Unless the garment is for an orthodox Jew:

Orthodox Jews

Orthodox Jews do not adhere to the traditional principal of men and women's buttoning. Both sexes button their shirts right over left. Dr. Yitzchok Block explains that "Our garments are traditionally buttoned right over left because we bear no weapons.... The Kabbalah says that the right side of a person should always take precedence over the left, for the right side of man signifies kindness while the left signifies sternness, justice and retribution." This unique difference explains the importance of what appears to be a very small difference.

Sometimes double-breasted coats have all buttonholes in place on both sides (not just one on the 'wrong' side for the jigger button),
so the garment can be worn either way.

this reminds me of the episode of the Office where Mike is wearing a woman's suit.
