I've noticed in a few threads about clubs, people complain about how they hate the music most clubs play. I'm puzzled by this, as it's all the mainstream music you hear everywhere. What kind of music do these people listen to then? Is there a special breed of music reserved for the initiated or something?

most people probably hate the mainstream music you hear everywhere to begin with, therefore hating that very same music when it's played in clubs?

A lot of clubs play electronic or house music. It's not the same as the top-40 that you can hear everywhere.

One reason why I go to a lot of clubs is to hear the music. Some of the best DJs play the same old ****, but Ive found that the new, younger generation of DJs are doing a lot of collabo within their music. For example, check out DJ Girltalk.

I dislike pre-recorded tracks that are meant to seem like a DJ is actually "mashing" up music together. For example, there's a really played out one with Black Sheep where they play the "Engine Engine No. 9" then mix it with funkmaster flex.

I wish I could force all the DJ's out there play the song just the way it sounds on the CD. I hate when they try to mix it up and change it. It's almost inevitably for the worst. Most DJ's think they're geniuses for mixing two tracks that sound nothing alike together.

Really good DJs are able to mash-up nicely...I'm talking the types that travel around the country and world to DJ..not the local yokels spinnin' on Friday nights.

It's usually that they use a mix simply because someone else already did it better, so why bother? Like those Katy Perry - Hot and Cold remixes; why should the DJ mix it live when there are already tons of them. Besides that, there are of course those remixes more liked than the original; Crookers' remix of Day and Night for example.

Exactly, top 40 music is generally very different from the music played in clubs and there's a good reason for that - when you are in a club, you want to dance; when you're listening to the radio you're generally at work or driving, so you want it a little more mellow.

matters what clubs you go to. If you go to the "yo bro sick ed hardy t pass me the goose" clubs you'll hear the same top 40 ****. If you go to the "I just sized down 4 on these bad boys and this club has no coat check fack" club you won't hear top 40.

One of the best mashup DJs out there IMO is DJ Mahf. Hometown guy, has a nice free mixtape out there now, some interesting collabos.

Get it here.
