Kettlebells seem kinda impractical to me, however I've heard some good things about them. Is there a seminar available near you? I'd imagine that it would be wise, in order to avoid injury, to learn from an instructor. Also you should probably try to get a pair that has adjustable weight, so you won't have to buy new ones after a couple of months.

kettlebells are like big buckets - like the old cartoon weights when I was a kid. you basically pick it up and move it around in complex excersises that work multiple muscle groups.

clubbells are like old "indian clubs" - they are typically lighter than dumbells or barbells that you would lift, but they are balanced in such a way that the use leverage to build up the workout. typical movement with clubbells seems to be circular - spinning your arms around, lifting your arms straight up with the clubbells, etc.

they are supposed to give a very good solid all body work our, but be relativly dangerous to use without good instruction. they are good options for home gyms, or for people who want to work out in their yard.

I actualy found a gym in my town that has classes in kettlebells, so I intend to get a little more comfortable and possilby buy a few.

I tried a kettlebell workout today. hardest workout I have had in years. I typically press, squat and lat pulldown at the gym 100 k, here I was tired out working with 8 k kettlebells.

I am going to do a few more classes, to learn to be safe, then buy myself a few, and drop about half of my trips to the gym, maybe do the gym once a week and kettlebells twice a week.

highly recomended

went back yesterday for another class. fantastic, last week I was using an 8 kilo kettlebell (they come in 4, 8, 12, 16, 24, 32 and 40), and it left me sore all over. this week I was using a 16 already, basically just due to being more comfortable with the grip and the basic movements. i guess last week I was very unsure of how to handle it and that affected what I could do. In any event, an excellent workout, and i am pleasently sore from it.
