Club Neckties outside of the Club

Might someone be able to advise on the acceptability of wearing a club tie, one bearing the emblem(burgee) of a private club outside of the organization. I am not interested in making any kind of statement with it or shoving it in somebody's face that I belong to a certain organization. Rather I simply find it to be a handsome tie that unfortunately sits in the closet only to see the light of day once or twice per year.

I've done it before and never had a problem. Those that do not know what it mean won't care, those that do might engage you in conversation or with a nod. If you're wearing it some where you know there will be members but you probably shouldn't be wearing it, than you may get called out on that. As a member you should know what is and is not acceptable.

This is where patterned/striped neck ties came from originally I believe - people wearing their regimental, club and school colours as ties. People only wore the colours and crests of the organisations they belonged too, so they must have worn them at non club functions.

I shouldn't think you need to worry about coming across as brash or crass wearing your club tie, most people wouldn't recognise it for what it is probably, and plenty of people wear RL and similar logos on their ties and all that says is I can afford RL, so you will certainly be better of than them. Unless your club has specific rules on the wearing of its paraphernalia wear it whenever you like.
