I'm in San Francisco for the week. What stores should I visit that I can't in New York?

thanks,

Wilkes Bashford of course. For SW, The Archive is just a couple of doors down, while MAC and Self Edge are also must go places for the fashion forward. I got a contemporary line Barbour jacket on sale a few weeks back at The Hound on Sutter, which is just a few paces from Alden. Of course the rest of Union Square/Downtown are larger chains that you can see in NY (Saks, Barney's, Bloomingdales...) or the chains (Gap, H&M, BR....) Malouf's in Burlingame has a sale going on, and I regret not being able to drive out there when I was in SF. Jeremy's has a decent and well-priced array of jackets and suits when I visited. Brionis, Etros, Isiahs were on display, along with the Armanis and other fashion brands.

Enjoy your trip, I love SF and not just for the shops.

I hear Cable Car Clothing is quite good, but a bit pricey. Haven't been there myself.

Wilkes Bashford. The Nordstrom in SF is reputed to be the best one in the country. Borrelli is in NY, but the SF version is worth visiting because the manager is a really nice and informative guy.

Corrected, I should wait for the caffeine to kick in before posting.

I really like visiting Borrelli, even though I haven't bought anything there. They must hate me.

Also Australia Fair - for one reason, to figure out your RM Williams size once and for all.

For casual wear I check out the rounds, Nida, aforementioned Archive, Self Edge, Rolo, Gimme Shoes, Azalea

Buttondown is worth the trip.

Malouf's will have a good collection of EGs.

How close are all these fine places from the convention center. I'll be there for a meeting soon?

Just about everything is walking distance from Moscone except Malouf's and Buttondown. Most (WB, Nordstrom, Borrelli, The Hound) are a couple blocks north centered around Union Square. Jeremy's is about a 15 minute walk southeast near PacBell Park and adjacent to South Park.

Buttondown you can reach by bus, Malouf's you can do by walking to Caltrain, but I wouldn't bother with either unless you have a car. It might be heretical but there are plenty of things to do in SF beyond shopping.

Is Herbert Russell (the "All Things Scottish" store) still open? Do they have any of the old Ballantyne cashmeres still? Those are worth finding at almost any price.

If you're talking about the Scottish store across the street from Wilkes, it is still open.

There's not much clothing wise going on in San Francisco. Pretty much everyone is having a sale and all the good places have been mentioned. Good Luck.

You should be banned for this type of heresy.

Thanks for the info though.

I really need to get on Malouf's mailing list - any idea what the markdown is on their EGs?

check out Jeremy's, but only if you have time. You may be able to find Kiton, Borrelli at deep discounts.
