I'm finally getting around to re-organizing my clothing (due to utter lack of closet space), and I would like a review of my plan.

Right now I have a moderately sized closet and a quite large two drawer chest. I would like to:

Hang:
Coats (I plan on buying a few more coats this season - peacoat, nylon & an overcoat, not including my current ones some of which I may end up tossing)
Suits (arrival of a spiffy ($$$) new one in a few weeks is what's sparking this project) (2)
Blazers (2)
Dress Shirts (5ish and need about double that)
T-Shirts
Dress Pants (2 now need another 2-3)

Fold away

Sweaters (5ish and plan on working up to 10 this season)
Undergarments
Casual Pants (Jeans, off season trousers)

Anyway, my point is the closet is already pretty strained and I would like (no need) to expand my wardrobe for work, play and everything inbetween. Does the above plan look about right? I can't think of anything I'm missing (except that I will need a few new pairs of shoes). Wow I cant wait for sales.

PS - what're the best ways to store my ties? I want to expand my selection of these also and am not a fan of hanging them,

Hey - sounds like a good plan, except I would fold the tee-shirts as well - that'll make more room for dress-shirts and blazers and such. If you don't like hanging them, the best way to store ties is perhaps a tie box that fits in your dresser drawer. All you do is roll them up and put them in there. I personally use this:

Came in through the donations at work along with one for belts. Both are getting very good use, and I do highly recommend them!

Avoid cedar at all cost when it comes to storing your ties

Remember to hang your suits and blazers in breathable garment bags. Also, store any cashmere sweaters in garment bags.

Can you explain why? Other than perhaps not wanting to smell like cedar all day?

Cedar is prone to drying and splintering, causing snags on less durable materials like the silk used to make (most) ties.

Trust me... you don't want this. I speak from painful experience.

Instead, consider hanging some pre-hung cedar sheaths or strategically place some cedar blocks throughout your closet to keep things fresh. That's what I've done, and it works fairly well.
