Gentlemen,

I am looking for a conservative solid blue cloth for a bespoke 2 piece business suit. The cloth I have in mind should not look shiny and be durable (11/12 ounce).

Could you please direct me to an adequate cloth type or book?

Many thanks and kind regards!

Go to your tailor and have a look of the books with him...
What you're looking for is available in any of the following:Lesser ,Harrison of Edinburgh ,Minnis,Fox,Holland&Sherry,Scabal ,Dormeuil ,etc...
Go directly there ,see and touch the cloth directly and don't pass hours on the forum talking about different cloths because everybody will have had a different experience and opinions with sometimes the same cloth...
Why 11/12 oz ?

Many thanks for your answer.

11/12 oz: This is the weight I like for spring and autumn.

For me it would be great to get a recommendations on which cloth types (hopsack, pick and pick etc) look dry - I always disliked that many navy / blue suits look a bit shiny.

With navy ,you can't really go wrong...
You do want something with a bit of depth because sometimes solid navy can look a bit flat..
Go to your tailor and get through the books with him because going on websites will never give a perfect picture of the cloth..The colour may differ, the finish can also look different..

Sharkskin/pick&pick will have a sheen. For drier finish, try a twill or hopsack. Fresco is uber-dry.

For what it's worth most Lesser cloth will appear 'dry'. Likewise the Classic bunch from J&J Minnis. Also, any Fresco by J&J Minnis looks similarly dry but it also looks quite different for other reasons: its weave. Of course, the best thing you can really do is see this in person, but it's always nice to get others' opinions and go armed with them.

Many thanks for the answers - I very much appreciate your help!

Would hopsack be a safe choice as a solid conservative suit?

Hopsack is a great cloth, often underrated. I like all cloths that are constructed like a canvas. It is also durable and relatively wrinkle-resistant. Only I would perhaps go up to 13 oz, if that's OK temperature-wise: more durable and better drape.

Shiny suits are not very elegant...I love texture and depth.
I 'm a great fan of sharkskin...
I remember being pushed to buy a Sharkskin suit by a Brioni SA ...
I was younger and I nearly caved in but the Sartorial Gods were looking upon me on that day...
