Hey HK iThugs,

I know a bunch of you have mentioned a source for shirtings and suitings but I can't recall it at the moment. I'll be in HK next week and trying to get a few decent shirtings for PL to make up for me. I haven't had the greatest luck with his in house stuff. Can anyone help?

Thanks - PM me if you want to grab a pint while I'm in town.

BTW, could you explain what's wrong with the house shirting fabric in PL? because I am considering to get some made as well and frankly just want some decent shirt matched with M&S standard with a better fit.

Douglas,

PL has a number of Italian bunches. More expensive, but a lot better as well. I don't see it making sense to try and buy higher end shirting cloth and bringing it to PL, you might as well go to Hemrajani, who stocks the stuff to begin with.

I have a number of shirts in PL house fabrics. Not the most exciting of shirting, but they do the job. Now if you're used to Alumo...

Go to Ascot Chang and get the shirts made there. They stock decent quality of many makes. Why mess buying from one and taking to another?

Thanks for the suggestions, and also to the responses over PM.

By way of short explanation - I have considered Ascot Chang, and I am actually thinking about trying a few shirts there this time as well, but they are twice the price of PL. My house fabrics from PL have been OK, but I find them subject to discoloration rather quickly - some are better than others. I'll try the Italian bolts this time, perhaps they'll hold up better. I guess you get what you pay for to some extent, so I am down for AC, but considering I recently had a nasty accident with a crayon in the wash with all my standard rotation of blue shirts, I essentially am looking to re-build my entire stock of shirts. At $120+ a shirt, that can add up at AC. I know a few of the iThugs had a good source for Mason fabrics at decent prices and were having Peter make them up for a song and it seemed to make good sense.

In addition to all this, I have a good rapport with Peter, he knows my pattern, I like him, and would like to give him my business if it's not unreasonably complicated to do so.

If it's decent cloth at an OK price you want, simply order 15m of Acorn (they have a glitzy new website, by the way), and you'll be all right.
