I spent a couple hours of my 4-day weekend putting in one of those hanging shelf systems in my closet. Even though space is at a premium in NY apartments, most closets are poorly laid out. I basically doubled the amount of hanging space that I have by utilizing more vertical space in the closet. It may not look like much to you guys that have big places, but this is about as good as it gets in a moderately-sized NYC apartment:

THAT, is exactly what I need. BB&B, here I come. Maybe I'll get myself a universal remote control while I'm there.

A skylight would open that space up a bit more. How many other people's closets above you would you have to go through?

Heh, about 6 or 7. My building is only a mid-rise.

I use thin wire hangers for shirts. I can crank in more of them.
I have problems with dress pants, I use clip hangers to hang them from the legs bottom. It takes a lot of space, and they keep falling to the floor.

I think we should all post pictures of our closets, from the small to the awesomely sized ones.

seventh blue shirt from the left Dan - stripey on white plastic hanger - is that a Jantzen? If so, think I have the same cotton.

Yes, it is. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, but that's ok. I think my shirts are about 1/3 Jantzen, 1/3 Chan, and 1/3 other MTM.

It does look very nice, Dan.

Looks like all the pictures you've taken are from the left.

Coincidence? Freudian slip?

Heh, you should see the outside of the door. In all seriousness, I still have a couple Bush/Cheney 04 bumper stickers up on it.
