I was just wondering others thoughs on them. Do you find them to be hideous and obviuos as to who is wearing one, or do you thing they are the best tie related invention thus far? Frankly I think there awful and have no place ion this earth except for pehaps the black tie with a tux since most guys have trouble tying one of those. Besides that i see no place for clip ons both bow and neck.
I hope I am not the only one who feels this way.

I used to wear clip-on bowties, when I was about age 6.

Back when cops used to commonly wear neckties as part of their uniforms, clip-ons were often mandatory...for obvious reasons. Clip-ons may have merit if a dressy appearance is required yet you have to work in proximity to heavy machinery. So, I think they have a place, albeit a very limited one.

I would rather die in a hail of gunfire than wear a clip-on tie.

I fancy myself something of a potential style martyr.

Come ON.....it takes little or no effort to learn to tie a bow-tie. Clip-ons are for chumps. I don't judge the people I see at formal events wearing clip-ons, but I do cast a knowing smile to those rocking the freestyle ties.

Back in the day the tux I rented for my high school prom came with a clip-on tie. At that point, I didn't really know what other tie I could use that would be appropriate, but I did know how to tie an actual piece of neckwear and the clip-on annoyed me to no end. It looked terrible and at least I could tell that it wasn't tied on. I mainly tried to ignore it and console myself with the fact that I didn't look as bad as some other people that night. I was glad to rid myself of it.

I remember having a clip on when I was little.

But when I was 10 we moved out of the country and I had to go to a private English school that required green blazer, black trousers, black socks and shoes, white shirt and a real tie (no clip ons allowed).

I learned how to tie my tie in mere seconds. We'd be playing red rover or some other school yard game before school started and once the bell rang you had to line up. Then your home room instructor would come by and make sure you were dressed properly.

The most common offense was a loose, incorrectly or untied tie. Then they'd pull out the ruler and make us hold out our hands palms down and give us a few smacks on our knuckles and possibly a demerit.

Ah memories.

I don't even let my 6 year old wear clip-ons. ( but, then again, he's not leaning over a spinning pump shaft either)

Is clip supposed to have 2 p's in it?

Also, "they're" not "there."

Clip-ons? Wouldn't be caught dead in one. I wear bow ties exclusively and take great pride in getting them tied absolutely perfectly, which you can't do with clip-ons. This is one reason I have my dry cleaner do my shirts up with HEAVY starch. Gotta look crisp and buttoned up.

I have to wear one at work on the terminal to avoid being strangled by angry customers...
They're just ghastly ...
It is a health and safety issue and also a monetary one...

I would prefer to drink my own urine than having to wear one outside the compulsory one i have to bear everyday...
By the way,i never ties anyway even if i'm in suit every minutes outside work...

Goddawful. They look stupid, they feel stupid, and I instantly have less respect for anyone I see wearing one who's over the age of 10. If you don't know how to tie a tie, then you shouldn't be trying to pass it off like you do.
